When and why do I need an asbestos survey?
Asbestos is hidden in most buildings built before the year 2000. When materials containing asbestos are disturbed, the fibres they release can be inhaled and cause fatal diseases.

An asbestos survey will locate any asbestos in your property so you can safely assess and manage the situation at hand.

You should get an asbestos survey in cases of:
Buying a new property...
Many older properties contain asbestos. It's a good idea to understand whether your new property is safe, and to budget for any future costs.

Planned refurbishment works...
Refurbishment works often disturb asbestos containing materials and this can be a serious health risk.

Accidental disturbances and disasters...
Whether it's damage to an unknown panel or a fire throughout an entire property, if asbestos could have been disturbed a survey is required.

General building management...
It is often a legal requirement to manage asbestos within a building under your control. An asbestos survey is the first step.

How much does an asbestos survey cost?
The price of an asbestos survey will vary depending on a number of factors:

-
Size of the property - bigger buildings generally take longer to survey and therefore incur a higher charge
-
Age of the property - properties built or refurbished between the 50's and 70's have a higher chance of containing asbestos and sometimes will mean a higher cost
-
Location of the property - surveys in remote or hard to reach locations require more planning and travel and will also likely cost more.

As a guideline, when surveying normal domestic properties such as houses we tend to charge the following:

- Small refurbishment surveys (to 1 or 2 areas): £150
- Management survey to a flat: £200
- Management survey to a house up to 4 bedrooms: £250
- Management survey to a house 5+ bedrooms: £350+
- Large refurbishment surveys or any commercial/industrial work would have to be discussed with us and quoted on a case-by-case basis so we can understand what it's required.
